Study Abroad: London

The London Study Center facility, comprising a series of interconnected eighteenth-century Georgian row houses one block from the British Museum, provides an ideal context for the study of British and European history, politics, and culture. Beautifully restored historic interiors are fitted with state-of-the-art technology, comfortably accommodating the educational, housing, and social needs of over one hundred and fifty students at a time. There are three primary ways to take history classes at the FSU London Study Center.

1) BROAD CURRICULUM AT THE LONDON STUDY CENTER
The London Study Center offers many of the courses that are of interest to history majors. Both the director and the assistant director of the FSU London Study Center are British historians and have designed courses that use the city as a textbook, with students spending much of their time out and about on academic excursions to sites of history, culture, and commemoration.

2) SUMMER PROGRAMS

Some summers a faculty member from the main FSU history department travels to London to teach a course, also as a part of the Broad Curriculum Program. The theme of these courses varies by professor, but they are also designed to take advantage of the museums, libraries, and historic sites of London.

3) HISTORY-INTENSIVE SEMESTERS
The History Department and London Study Center are working together to offer a history-intensive semester on a regular rotation so that so that every history major will have the chance for the experience. Led by a History instructor from the main Tallahassee campus, history majors will be able to take a wide selection of courses that fulfill their major and other course map requirements. This history-intensive semester will also be useful for anyone wishing to complete a minor in one semester, as the history courses combine with the other offerings at the FSU London Study Center to fulfill the requirements for a British Studies minor. Courses offered regularly in London and likely to be of interest to history majors include: British Life and Culture, Comparative Govt: Great Britain, Tudor England, Intro to Theatre, Shakespeare, Nineteenth-Century Europe, Art and Art History, World Religions, Intro to Archaeology, Sociology of Mass Media, Photography, and Public Speaking. We anticipate the next History-Intensive Semester will be in Fall 2025.

Tuition for a semester-long program in London is usually set for all students (both in-state and out-of-state) at the current out-of-state tuition rate.
